Bird is in a rich vein of form, having

claimed a maidenTest five-fer against New

Zealand, followed by a career-best 7-45

forTasmania over New SouthWales in the

Sheffield Shield, and expects to be a good

fit for the Nottinghamshire side andTrent

Bridge’s unique bowling conditions.

“My style is to challenge the batsmen

with every delivery, making them play at

deliveries that they shouldn’t, and keeping

the ball in the right areas for a number of

overs,” said Bird.

“I think that kind of bowling suits English

conditions and I can’t wait to bowl on the

surfaces atTrent Bridge after talking to

Andre Adams about the wickets.

“I will hopefully be able to pass on a bit

of my experience to the younger lads, but

the trip also acts as a learning curve for

myself and I will be picking the brains of

players as to the best places to bowl on

these surfaces.

“I am in a similar position back home

where I am one of the older guys in

theTasmania attack and have that

responsibility to help the younger lads

coming through.

“I will aim to be bowling well throughout

my ten games, to help the Club and keep

my performances in the minds of the

national selectors.”

Siddle has been ruled out with a stress

fracture in his back, as well as work to

remedy a long-standing ankle problem,

but Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket

Mick Newell is backing Bird’s experience

and international quality to be of huge

benefit to the side this summer.

“Having a bowler of international quality

to spearhead our young seam attack is

important for us, so we knew what type of

player we wanted to go for,” he said.

very well in thatTest match, he’s a similar

“Jackson is also very suitable for English

combination for us.”
