Zealand won by eight wickets
Victory for New Zealand, a debut for
Gladstone Small, Gower-led controversy
and a plague of flying ants punctuated the
1986 Trent Bridge Test. Gower deliberately
no-balled in an attempt to deny New Zealand
the runs required for a final-ball victory but
Martin Crowe’s four stood to secure an
eight-wicket victory for the tourists.

Atherton and a double for Graham Gooch.

as New Zealand, captained by Stephen
Fleming, fell to a four-wicket defeat at
Trent Bridge.
