COVERED 2024 Spring
15 @TRENTBRIDGE HASEEB HAMEED “I still remember so vividly when I walked through the gates here for our first game back. I had played here before and always loved playing here, but this time it was different. “It felt amazing walking out onto the ground, and I just felt really grateful to have the privilege after being locked away for three months.” The opening batter possesses a similar mindset to this day - he’s known for serving extra time in the nets. But when not slaving away in the Sobers and Hadlee Hall lanes, or attempting to “resurrect” his golfing career, Hameed spends considerable time behind the wheel. Since his arrival in Nottingham in 2019, his birthplace and family home of Bolton has remained his weekend base; a two-hour one-way trip on a healthy run, he says. While others may find such lengthy treks laborious, for Hameed this particular stretch of highway – combining the A50, M6 and M62, for what it’s worth – serves him with opportunities for reflection without the distractions of day-to-day itineraries.
