That, from the moment we enter this world, we embark on a 23-day physical cycle, a 28-day emotional cycle and a 33-day intellectual cycle. Only when we are at the high-point of each of these are we able to perform, to think, even to feel at our best. In all honesty, it’s a theory that most think is nothing short of bunkum; and it’s hard to see it gathering support in the sporting world either. Would a batsman, fresh from a match- winning hundred, credit his success to a fixture falling at the right point within his physical cycle?Would a player blame his emotional biorhythms for an ill-tempered outburst on the field? Hardly likely. Still, there is something in the idea that, to perform at your best, one’s mind, body and soul need to be in peak condition. For Jake Ball, those three spheres have been constantly evolving – rebuilding, even.
