As another season draws to a close it is
pleasing to report that as I write to you, we
remain in contention in two competitions.
Whilst we all shared the disappointment of
our elimination at the quarter-final stage of
the NatWestT20 Blast, our performances
in the group stage demonstrated that we
have a talented group of players that can
prosper in this format.
Irrespective of the final outcome on the
field I think it would be fair to say that we
have all been entertained this year. Our
players, both as a team and as individuals
have produced some quite remarkable
performances. It is fitting that these
efforts have led to further recognition at
international level for Alex and Harry and
I know you will join me in wishing them
well and congratulating them on their
achievement.
Your support of our domestic matches has
been exceptional and our audience has
continued to grow; in fact ourT20 Blast
attendance record ranked as the highest
outside of London for a third consecutive
year. This support not only creates a
fantastic atmosphere atTrent Bridge but
when aligned with your support of our
international fixtures it is a positive factor
that is given due consideration in the
allocation of future major matches.
The external landscape remains fiercely
competitive and the ECB has the
unenviable task of allocating international
matches to the ten competing venues vying
to stage them. This is a critical period
as we are now in consultation over the
process of award and we are preparing to
present the best possible case to secure our
future as aTest Match venue. As ever your
support remains crucial and is very much
appreciated.
Off the field, those familiar with our efforts
to further strengthen our ties within the
community will be aware of the ongoing
work of theTrent Bridge CommunityTrust.
We are about to embark on a legacy project
which aims to re-introduce recreational
cricket to theTrent Embankment by
refurbishing a derelict pavilion.To raise
fundsTracey Francis has set herself a
challenge that would terrify most of us so I
hope that you may be compelled to make a
small donation to her cause when you read
about it in this issue of Covered.
Thank you for your support and I trust that
you will enjoy the final weeks of the season.
