Paul Franks – The General’s address
“The worst thing that can happen is
by trying to help younger players we
inhibit them. They have to develop in
their ownways, and work to become
the players theywant to be.”
while spinner Gary Keedy’s first steps into
physiotherapy have come with the seconds.
With two of the trio registered playing
staff, Keedy and Franks have been able to
influence the side’s progress both on and
off the field, adapting and learning each
week.
“We’re learning as we go,” said Franks.
“We’re very supportive of each other, as
any staff should be.The addition of Jamie
as an extra pair of eyes, a man who is
Nottinghamshire through and through, has
been fantastic for all of us.
“The most important thing is that we work
to get that balance right. Jamie is very
independent, we challenge each other quite
a lot, it’s not all patting each other on the
back because that wouldn’t work either.
“We have to turn around and say things
like ‘are we doing enough’; do we need to
take a step back or push them harder?
“It’s a tricky one for us in the fact that
we have to balance how much myself and
Gary actually do on the field. A lot of
the time we are sacrificing our places for
another player and I’m at the stage of my
career where I’m happy to do that.”
Franks is a player defined by hard work,
discipline and passion for Nottinghamshire.
Fiercely determined to see the county he
has represented his entire career succeed, it
is hardly surprising to see the second team
imbued with the same vigour, embodying
their leader’s ethos.
While still establishing his staff ’s coaching
and management styles, Franks is
looking to ensure that while continuing
the development of his younger charges,
the players retain their personalities and
identities.
“The most important thing for these
players is for them to make their own way,”
he said.
“The worst thing that can happen is by
trying to help younger players we inhibit
them. They have to develop in their own
