Samit Patel discusses the IPL, England’s chances
against India and his determination to force his
way back into the national side.
Cricket is a sport reliant on sound.
For players, nothing can conjure
feelings of joy or dread like a snick
of ball on bat edge, or the satisfying
crack of leather on middle.
It’s much the same for fans.
In recent years, a carnival
atmosphere in one-day matches has
complemented the reserved hum and
ripples of four-day applause.
Nottinghamshire all-rounder Samit
Patel is a man accustomed to the
electric nature of the game.
From success with his domestic
county to representing his country in
the subcontinent, he has witnessed
the roar of Indian fans, and insisted
that it’s a unique experience for a
player, no matter their experience.
“Indian fans love limited-overs
cricket, there’s no atmosphere like it
in the world,” he said.
“It’ll be an interesting prospect for
the England team, coming to the field
to to face India at Trent Bridge, they
have a huge following in the city and
will be very well supported.
