Ed Cowan
Cowan will be with Notts until the end of
June, when international duty takes over.
The opening batsman is key to Australian
plans, and he has found that the shadow of
the Ashes has already started to change a
few opinions in the club.
“I’m here to get in their minds, I’ve been
planted in the camp,” he joked. “Swanny
refuses to bowl to me in the nets, I’m not
sure what’s going on.”
“We’ll all work together to get a result for the
team but come mid-July it will be very different
and we’ll be playing hard to beat each other.
“It’s important to keep a focus on the next
game and know that I can contribute here
initially and then aim for something even
more special with the Australian team.”
Events behind the scenes in the Australian
camp have overshadowed their winter
campaign, leading to some high-profile
suspensions from the side. For Cowan,
the clear air is refreshing and the problems
would have been far more destructive had
they taken place in July.
“People are accountable to make decisions
and we respect those,” he said.
“Moving forward as a team we needed
something that set a few standards,
guidelines and boundaries.
“It took a lot of courage by the management
to make a stand and I think the players
respected that.”
Cowan grabbed the attention of the
Notts fans with his opening knock of 61
against Middlesex and if he continues
to find form through the season,
his runs may be the deciding factor
in Nottinghamshire’s campaign for
trophies this summer.
