“PeterTrego and Craig Kieswetter built a
bit of a partnership but as soon as they lost
Kieswetter you could sense how much we
wanted to kill the game.
“That was the tipping point, from two
down, and we knew that their middle order
wasn’t as strong as usual, with Jos Buttler
being on international duty.
“We showed no fear and delivered the
goods.”
Glamorgan’s surprise semi-final victory
over Hampshire turned heads, knocking
out one of the competition’s early
favourites in confident fashion. At this
stage, the cricketing world labelled
Notts heavy favourites, a move that for
Ball, could have meant bad news for
the Outlaws.
“To be widely called favourites puts a lot
of pressure on you,” he said.
“There was a lot of expectation on us to
perform. Deep down we expected to win,
but we wouldn’t have said that ahead of
the match.

“It was a massive game for us, and it was a
strange atmosphere before the start of play.
Everyone in the dressing room knew that
they were expected to win, but we were
greeted with quite a battle.”
Where Ball preached caution, the ever-
confident Patel opted for a more direct
approach in a pre-match interview
with the Nottingham Post in which he
defied convention by embracing the
favourites tag.
“A bit of spice before a final doesn’t do any
harm,” he said.
“I backed myself, I backed the team and
we all backed each other to go out there
and win.
“Would I do it again? Probably not, no.”
